The Big Lemon is a Community Interest Company (CIC).
CICs are registered companies with special additional features, created for people who want to conduct a business for community benefit, and not purely for profit. This is achieved by a “community interest test”, an “asset lock”, and a “dividend cap”. These ensure that the company is established for community purposes and the assets and profits are dedicated to these purposes. CICs are regulated by the CIC Regulator.
Community is a big part of life at The Big Lemon. We have a vibrant and growing passenger membership and encourage members to get involved and help us improve our service, and we work with a number of volunteers from the community and external local groups to improve the environment and the services available to local people.
In April 2010 we launched our Give Something Back scheme, a fund to provide financial help to local community organisations.
